The project led by Tao Wang, “Emotion Recognition and Depression Assessment Based on Body Postures,” was selected.

The project was approved in December 2022. It focused on developing a multi-scale spatiotemporal network for affective computing based on human postural movements, aiming to capture coarse- and fine-grained emotional information expressed through full-body movements and decode the complex mapping between emotions and postural movements. Based on this framework, the project analyzed kinematic features in patients with depression and healthy controls, extracted multidimensional abnormal postural features, and introduced a joint-attention mechanism to improve the recognition of abnormal postural movements in patients with depression. A posture-based depression assessment model was established, providing objective evidence for non-invasive auxiliary screening of depression.

Based on this research, Tao Wang has published four related papers as the first author in high-level international journals, including IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing, Information Fusion, and Knowledge-Based Systems, and has been granted three invention patents. He was also selected for the first cohort of the China Association for Science and Technology Young Elite Scientists Sponsorship Program, Doctoral Student Special Program. These results further expand the application of posture analysis in human-machine interaction and mental health assessment, providing technical support for large-scale, low-cost, non-invasive mental health screening and personalized auxiliary diagnosis and treatment systems, with strong scientific value and application prospects.
