Decoding Metaphors and Brain Signals in Naturalistic Contexts: An Empirical Study based on EEG and MetaPro

Abstract

Metaphors are psycholinguistic phenomena that reveal human cognition, yet their neural basis in naturalistic contexts remains underexplored. This study combines electroencephalography (EEG) with MetaPro, a computational metaphor processing tool, to examine how metaphorical language is reflected in brain activity during natural reading. The analysis identifies EEG differences between metaphorical and literal language, including high-frequency variability and functional connectivity patterns. These findings provide empirical evidence that neural signals can help differentiate cognitive processes involved in metaphor comprehension.
